In the fall of 2010, we surveyed our membership about mobile devices. 549 people responded (~6% of our membership, ~0.1% of our annual attendance), revealing the following about the devices they bring with them to the museum.  I’m not sure how accurate these results are given the sample size, so grain of salt and all that stuff.
Here’s the question we asked, “When you visit the Museum do you bring any of the following along with you? (Check all that apply)” and we gave the following options: Mobile phone that can send/receive text messages, iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Other Smartphone that can access the web, iPad, iPod touch, laptop (including netbooks and tablet PCs). Due to a flaw in the survey design, unanswered questions may indicate no device, no SMS-enabled device, or a skipped question.
12% didn’t answer the question
60% bring one device
28% bring more than one device
